Reflective Activity for Pupils – My Learning Experiences
Introduction
A healthy and inclusive school focuses on children’s well-being and the importance of effective learning and teaching, having quality resources and a range of learning opportunities within the school and local community.
This reflective activity engages pupils in the process of self-evaluation. It will assist in enabling children’s well-being and confirm effective learning practices within the school including how:
• learners are supported to take responsibility for their learning, are listened to and respected during their learning
• the school ensure a range of learning experiences that are enjoyable and challenging
• the school ensures learners are actively involved on planning and making choices about their learning, setting targets for improvement
• the school builds on prior learning and is differentiated to meet individual needs
• learners can access digital learning opportunities to improve their skills
• members of the community contribute to pupils’ learning and well-being
This reflective activity will:
• assist in evaluating pupils’ perceptions of their learning experiences
• develop an understanding of the importance of engaging with pupils in identifying where, when and how they learn
• identify areas for improvement which will enhance the well-being of pupils and promote better learning
You should decide what format you will use to deliver this activity. If you choose to engage pupils in a survey please use the following steps:
1. Where possible the activity should be distributed to ALL pupils, or at least a large representative sample from each year group, as this will provide a more credible reflection and assessment of views.
2. Once the data has been collected it should be collated and analysed. The findings can then be used to inform the school improvement plan.
3. Schools should decide how they will process the data collected and how they will inform all school staff and community members of the findings.
The survey format is designed to protect the respondent’s privacy providing confidentiality and anonymity.
You may wish to use My Learning reflective survey from the Knowing Me, Pupil Resource to further explore what children feel about their relationships within the school.
